Assassin's Creed Release Date:

The Assassin's Creed release date has been set for the 9th November 2007.

The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, who have been the team behind the Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell Series.

Game Details:

The game is set in the Third Crusade back in 1191 AD. Now for the history lesson... this was when parts of Europe tried to conquer the Holy land from Saladin. With this setting in mind it is believed you will be up against some well know historical enemies such as the the Order of the Nights Templar, which you may be aware of if you have read or watched The Da Vinci Code.

The first thing to note about Assassins Creed are the amazing graphics and fantastic look of the game. From what has been seen so far this game is sure to be a showcase for the next gen consoles. Your character is know as Altair who is a disgraced member of the Hashshashin sect who have been charged with the responsibility of killing the 9 historical figures behind the Crusades. You have had a rocky past recently with the sect and after failing to assassinate your last target and recover the lost treasure you have been thrown back down to the rank of Uninitiated. This is where the game takes off. You have been given a second chance to show your worth by going to the Holy Land doing your thing (Assassinating) so that peace can be restored.

The game play is open ended much like past games such as Grand Theft Auto, so you can come and go as you please. When moving through the Holy Land you can blend in with the crowd so that you don't attract any unwanted attention, or if your in a rush take the risk of hurrying and pushing your way through the crowd's but this can land you in trouble with the authorities. You can specify how you want to move from place to place by hitting a specific button on the control pad and an on screen display will remind you what mode you are in. The game is largely based on line of sight so if you do find yourself in hot water you can either fight you way out of it or make a dash for it. It can be tricky enough to shake off your pursuers so you might just prefer battling it out with them but if you feel you have a chance the easier option may be to do a runner. As in Grand Theft Auto you will have be be mindful of your wanted meter. All the buildings can be climbed so a rooftop may be a great place to get away but be warned as you can easily be spotted by the many archers patrolling the upper levels of the city. A lot of the objects in your environment are physics based interactive elements with many hiding places dotted around the place so you also have the option of trying to evade your enemies by hiding away in a small corner or under a hay bale.

A unique feature to the game is the way you interact with your environment. As already mentioned you can climb a lot of the building and walls so if you are coming towards an object you have to press a specific button to dictate how you will maneuver yourself. The controller buttons are separated by your various body parts so if you want to climb a wall you will need to press the corresponding button and your character will move as best he can up the wall.

Now onto the weapons!!

Your standard weapons include a sword, dagger, a hidden blade, a cross bow which can also be used as an axe, a concealed mechanical dagger hidden under your slieve which can be used for stealthy kills and your trusty old fist. As you progress through the game you will also be able to equip yourself with improved items such as boots which will help you when climbing.

The background of the game isn't fully clear yet but from the demo's shown so far it looks as though a mystical power is always lurking in the background. We don't know what this means yet but as the story progresses further all will be revealed.

As further details are revealed we will keep you informed but for the time being you can chat about the game in our Assassins Creed Forum.
