Socom Confrontation
Im completly obsessed so I decided Im guna make a very big thread about it and bore ye all - This new installment of SOCOM will feature brand new maps as well as the map "Crossroads" instead of the larger styled maps that are seen on the most recent PS2 titles, SOCOM 3 and Combined Assault. The largest map in Confrontation will be smaller than the smallest map in SOCOM 3 or Combined Assault.
- Full support of 7.1 Surround Sound, complete with true audio physics- A shot from around the corner, sounds like it's around the corner.
- Available on the Playstation Network and in retail stores on Blu-Ray disc bundled with the Sony bluetooth headset
- Weapons likely will remain customizable much like they were in SOCOM 3: scopes, foregrips, suppressors, bipods, etc
- A new knifing melee attack for close quarters combat.
- Lobby System will be similar to SOCOM 2 and 3
- Custom Ranked and Custom Unranked Games
- An auto match-making system will be included in addition to the classic briefing room and custom game set-up as seen in previous SOCOM titles.
- Ultimate 32-player online combat experience featuring stunning high-definition visuals, advanced physics, ballistics, impact and destruction modeling
- It is not yet clear whether multiple people will be able to play online from a single Playstation 3, though it is possible
- Rich interactive and destructible environments (i.e. shell casings can bounce off environment and make noise when stepped on or kicked)
- Full support of the SIXAXIS and Dualshock 3 wireless controller, offering greater control. As seen on joystiq.com (official S:C video), prone crouch and lean will be handled by the Sixaxis.
- Advanced voice communication systems
- A proximity chat feature where nearby enemies can hear your chatter.
- Comprehensive player customization including fully featured load out, encumbrance and unique uniforms
- Up to seven different game modes are available on each map
- An Advanced Party System, players can form a team with their friends and easily join an online game
- Regional combat or challenge teams from around the world
- Additional themed downloadable content packs available post launch (Maps, Skins, and equipment) - Location based packs ( Different countries)
- Choose between classic view or the new over-the-shoulder view(as an option)
- Advanced Player Uniform and Clan Uniform Customization
- Choose from 6 different Special Ops squads worldwide (available to clan members only)[4] :
* Navy Sea, Air, and Land (SEALs, United States)
* Special Air Service (SAS, United Kingdom)
* Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK, Germany)
* Unidad de Operaciones Especiales (UOE, Spain)
* 1er Régiment de Parachutistes d'Infanterie de Marine (1er RPIMa, France)
* Commando Raggruppamento Subacquei ed Incursori Teseo Tesei (COMSUBIN, Italy) - Joint Task Force Two (JTF-2, Canada) may be included in future downloadable content.
- In-depth clan support- leaders chose a special force for all the members to be apart of along with a customized clan insignia.
- Community support- team tournaments and clan ladders will reward top players with different weapons and game items
- Slant six develpers are stating that updates will occur every month with new downloadable content every 3 months.
- Users will be able to access and manage their clan from socom.com
- A new sprint feature has been announced
- Player can now chose the amount of body armor his character wears. The catch is: the more body armor, the slower your character moves.
- An advanced cover system that uses SIXAXIS. For example, if your head is exposed while against a wall, tilt the controller downwards and your character will lower his head.
- There will be victory dances.
What type of customizations will the clans be able to do in Socom Confrontation that were not there in the past games?
Allen: Clan leaders will be able to create clan badges that will appear on all clan members' arms in game. They will also be able to create a clan Motto and choose a clan color which will be applied to portions of all clan member’s uniforms. On top of this joining or creating a clan will provide players with unique character customization options which include gear, armor and a faction specific weapon.
What clan features are supported in game, and how will it work?
Allen: Clan members will gain access to clan specific community pages that we’re not ready to discuss yet and clan members can also look forward to seeing the classic clan ladders.
Is there Aim Assist?
Seth: No.
Which view will be the main focus when you start a round and which view are the developers focusing more of their time on, the Third person or Over-the-Shoulder view?
Seth: Both views are third person view. Do you mean the classic SOCOM, character at the center of screen, perspective?
Both the new over the shoulder and classic SOCOM views are available as an option from the options menu. Which view you start in depends on what you have selected for this option. Some members of the development team prefer the over the shoulder view and some members prefer the classic SOCOM view. Both are being used. I would say that most people on the development team prefer the over the shoulder view but both are being given equal attention.
Will there be an option so that i can choose to use the d-pad to lean my character opposed to having to use the SIXAXIS™ motion controls...?
Allen: The leaning system was designed specifically for SIXAXIS™, and provides a huge range of variable input. Trying to represent this with buttons would remove the range of input (you would have to snap to the maximum extents), would require at least 4 buttons and would be very difficult to do while operating all of the other controls. Some of the lean positions would simply be unavailable – you could never lean out and then stretch up to clear your gun into a slot in a specific section of broken wall for example. The real issue is that you will be using both analog sticks as well as your trigger while layering on progressive lean and trim with the SIXAXIS™. As well, the lean system interacts with the low-speed movement (shuffle) and duck (bailout!) positions and there is no good way to express this with a digital button.
My question pertains mainly to sniping. If you see it in your scope can you hit it?
Seth: Yes. Past SOCOM games had an effective range for weapons, which meant that you could see someone who you could not hit. We made this better with a patch but we will not have an effective range where you cannot hit someone who is beyond it in SOCOM: Confrontation.
There's going to be a certain amount of customization available in SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation. Weapons, of course, body armor, and specific character touches. You can outfit your Merc or Commando with balaclavas, glasses, helmets, hats, and camo.

I don't think its possible for anything to be better than COD4. Not even GTA could dethrone it

Crossroads ... you have just made my day. Only last week i was thinking they should have Crossroads again on account of it being such a great map. I was also thinking that they should go back to the smaller maps from socom 2 because the maps in socom 3 were too big and you could be out of the action too much. This game is going to kick ass.
Did you play it online on the ps2 steve???? I spent half my life on it.

Third person makes the maps much more interactive. In COD4 the map doesnt make too much of a difference bar the gun you use but in Socom you can do soooo many things i.e. set up ambushes with your mates, loads of hiding places... even in bushes and what not, loads of tactics that you cant do in an FPS. Trust me, you will all see the light in September.
