Updating Ps3 using a CD

Hello all ive been having trouble with my ps3 updating ive only just got it connected to the internet and when i go to download update by using the ps3 it just stays on 0% and eventually times out. So ive downloaded some software from the playstation site and write it onto a cd but its still not working ive put into a ps3 and it says like 0kb on the cd?

Duno if this info helps but its a "PUP" file?

afaik i dont think ya can update from a cd go to the sony site and it will tell ya how to do it with a usb flash drive
