Sorry that I haven't replied for days; I've been a bit busy lately.

Yeah, that's correct it happens whenever it is plugged into a power outlet.

Do you know when you plug it into a socket and the red standby light is on? It even happens then.

brian i would say it's your wireless network card in the ps3. search the net for mention of similar fails (i've seen mention of it once) and see what the symptoms have been. you could try bringing it round to a mates or neighbours with wireless, plug it in there & see what happens. I'd say it's one for sony helpline tho.

your right on this.

the problem sounds more like a IP has been twinned check on your router that the PC and PS3 have different IP addresses, if so then the problem is else where

I would need to know more about how you set up initially to solve the problem
my imidiate recomendation would be disconnect PC and PS3 remove internet setting from PS3, power down the router a and reboot it ensuring the router is set up to make the IP addreses for the connected equipment (DHCP is on)

reconnect both devices and power them up one at a time but leave each one running as you move to set up the next one.

also what are you running on your PC Xp or vista?

I'm running XP.

I've restored the factory settings on the PS3 and restarted and powered down the router, then started from scratch but still the same problem.

I contacted my ISP again, they talked me through fiddling with the settings on my PC (Control Panel > Internet Options etc.) but all was as it should be. He suggested something on my PC (like an Anti-virus software) was blocking the PS3 for connecting to the net. He didn't see any problems with my internet connection.

So I disabled my Anti-Virus (Avast) and firewall softwares for a while to see if they were the cause of the problem. But the network still disconnects when the PS3 is plugged in.

It's getting really frustrating at this stage . I've tried everything possible it seems and yet nobody knows what the problem is.

Yes, my laptop, iPod touch and Archos 704 can all connect at the same time no problem. It's just the PS3 that causes the internet to disconnect on the network. It's totally weird.

It's not a faulty PS3 either because I went in to Zavvi on Friday and they were kind enough to give me a new console on the off-chance that it was a faulty one.

I've rang Sony a few days ago and they said that I may have to open a few ports for the PSN to work properly. So I did a search on the internet for the ports that have to be opened. Here's the ports I've opened.

TCP: 80, 443, 5223
UDP: 3478-3479, 3658

Are these the correct ports?

[EDIT]: Just saw the sticky about the ports. Sorry.

Hmm.. Just noticed something interesting there. I saw an Internet Connection Test Screen Cap with 5 tests (IP address, Internet Connection, Playstation Network, UPnP, Nat Type). However on my Connection Test screen... I only have the first 2 (IP address and the Internet Connection). Is this normal?

if your router allows it...my Belkin N1 does just use the IP address created by your router for your PS3 and make it DMZ you do not need to open any ports as you are now out side of all firewalls....do not do this with your PC it will be hijacked and turned into a zombie.

as there are no viruses for the PS3 this will not hurt it.

lets pray they never make any either.

personally I think it is your router setting that is doing it. or you ISP does not suppoert online Gaming. Highly unlikely but a possibility.

ensure your router is set up as to DHCP so that each device connecting is given an entirly different IP address...make sure you set it up so that the IP address never expires and if your router supports UPnP switch it on.

No luck I'm afraid. I went onto my routers homepage and clicked WAN Setup, ticked the 'Default DMZ Server' box, and entered the PS3's IP. I also checked that DHCP and UPnP were enabled.

But the router keeps disconnecting.
