Default pS3 causes internet to drop its connection

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I've being searching for a sollution for months now and it's driving me potty at this stage:

I have a Netgear DG834G V4 wireless router (latest firmware installed) . Whenever we plug in our PS3 the DSL and Internet lights on the router go off and the internet connection on the PC drops every few seconds and then comes back and so on. Whenever I do the Internet Connection Test I get the 80710102 error code (Which I believe is a DNS error???). The wireless settings on the router are correct. It’s just when the PS3 is even plugged in that the problem arises. I have tried different things people have suggested to me like connecting via Ethernet, disabling SSID, disabling Media Server, changing encryption, channel etc... But still have the same problem. Have you guys any solutions?

A few days ago, I contacted my ISP (Gaelic Telecom) and the guy said that it's not an internet issue and that I should contact Sony, as he is guessing that the PS3 is faulty and needs replacing. Is this true?

In the event that it does need replacing, do you need any of the original documentation that came with the box because they might have got thrown out (its still under warrantity though. I bought it last April)

Hi,

It's on Wireless with WEP connection.
Static IP address
Prim/Sec DNS: 87.232.1.40/87.232.1.41
Proxy Server not used
UPnP disabled
With all the correct Ports forwarded on the router

Hope this helps.

BTW, yes, it was bought in April of this year.

Thanks.

maybe gaelic telecom doent support static ip, ya have to pay some companies to get a static ip and if ya dont have the receipt ya will have to pay 250 to get it replaced, ya could try opendns.org for the dns servers

Is it definately the PS3 and not the router then? One of my mates said, I should get a D-Link gaming router? Could this solve the problem?

Sounds like a faulty ps3 wireless to me. Can you try connecting to a mates wireless router?

Right I read it whenever he plugs the ps3 into the power with the wireless enabled.

Besides, why would people suggest connecting via ethernet if that's what he was doing already.

It still sounds like, to me, it's happening whenever he plugs it into the power. perhaps you could clear this up brian? Also your isp doesn't need to support static ip as (in this case) it's a function of the router.

You can give whatever ip you want to devices behind your router, in the lan. the static ip you can buy of isp's refers to your ip on the www. People who want to host their own website use it. Could be wrong but that's how I understand it.

I'm no expert so perhaps, but I can't see how the isp could tell if the ip is static or has been dynamically assigned. unless his isp doesn't allow a LAN config at all (or more specifically more than one ip behind the isps ip). perhaps he should try connecting the ps3 without the pc connected, ditch the static ip and port forwarding and connect the ps3 to the router same as the pc does. Try it with the pc off tho. You should at the very least be able to get the browser going.

that said, i'm sure your isp would have gone through basic network settings on both the router and ps3 and what you've tol us sounds fine. Can you clear up what you meant by it happening even when the ps3 is just plugged in?
