Talk me into a PS3 (into PSN, specifically)

Hello all,

I just joined the forum to ask this one question ...

I recently got back into gaming after a loooong absence and I went for an Xbox 360 mainly because everyone I asked told me that Xbox Live pissed all over PSN. Now, while I am impressed with Live (don't hate me), I can see that the PS3 is going to pull ahead of the 360 sooner rather than later and am considering changing horses.

Looking back, I don't think that any of the people who pushed me towards the 360 had much hands-on experience with the competition. It was basically a lot of "My friend says ..." and "From what I hear ..."

My question is this: does anyone (playing in Ireland) have direct experience of Live and PSN? Is there really much difference?

Feel free to add any other pro-PS3 thoughts that occur to you! (I don't care about Blu-Ray, mind you.)

Sorry for the lengthy post, hope someone can help ...

Hey Chief.

I have both machines and yes Live is a hell of a lot better than PSN. But not so much that would make me buy a 360, I bought it for games not for Live but yes its better, For now anyway,

PSN is ok but there's still very little up on it, Just a few Demo's and Movie Trailers (the odd game) but you have to remember its still only 1 year old,

As I'm sure most people in here would agree. go with a PS3 and sit tight for PSN to become megatastic

Thanks for the replies - and the honesty! Looks like I'll be sitting tight until the difference in game quality becomes too much to bear (assuming that day comes).

i dont have live but just look at warhawk
i bet thats just a taste of what sony has to offer
im know theres bigger and better things to come and thats why i bought a ps3
sony have delayed alot of their $hit but in the end they will deliver.....

im here to fill ur head wif a loada facts, i have xbox 360 and a PS3, yes xbox live is very good, but i have watched the ps3 get better and better and now prefare it, on paper the PS3 is a much much much more powerfull console with a processor with 8 duel cells while the xbox has a rubbish 3 and plus BLU RAY winning the HD / Blu Ray war is a major plus, the games could be soooooo much better with the 50gb the blue ray disk can offer but only time will tell. the ps3 has not even reached its full protential but many people are starting to see what a console it is and did the right thing and to get rid of the ugly, load ass, ring of death crap called the XBOX 360, does anyone want m xbox lol, trust me if u can and so the right thing, PLAYSTAION i love you lol

Personally I've never seen Live in action and I can only say that PSN
is ok....I'd like it to be quicker and a little more intuitive. But it works fine !!

Live at the moment beats PSN hands down!!!!!
But home etc will push it forward, we need more content and maps etc esp for COD4!!!!!!
but the people on PSN are so much better than Live which is full of 12 year olds who just like to swear!!!!

That's certainly true (the swearing). I like a good swear as much as the next ****er, but I can do without being abused by obnoxious pubescent half-wits every time I sign in. Xbox Live, for all its seamless this and integrated that, is a real Mecca for said half-wits.

If I thought PSN was home to a more mature type of gamer - I don't need discussions on Freud's theories of the subconscious, just something more than "You're all faaaaags, I ruuule" - that'd be a big selling-point.

I have to say as a gamer not a hardware fan that Sony have the rep for good hardware,I have been using there consoles for years and never had a probblem with any of the countless modles.PSP also was a sound investment for me things keep changing and Sony have there fingers on the pulse,look at it like this.
PS3 developed with set back's to launch date but no hardware prob's.
PS3 growing stronger with bluray support xbox wondering what 2 do.

Microsoft will never go along with sony's Bluray and that will cost them even more than hardware fauiler's,most money is in games xbox just hit 1,000 games for xbox360.Sony slow start but xbox may be burnt out already with games getting bigger and needing more gb's per disc.
Do you want games coming on 5 discs in 2 to 3 years?
Bluray 50gb recordable disc 200gb disc in development.
I have a 250 gb harddrive and will not need a new one for ages thanks to ps3 sata drive compatability,Microsoft want you to buy only theres.
I have a mate whos had 3 xbox360 normal console replaced each one by microsoft for the red ring thing and his new elite has gone back 2

First of all, you have no idea what you're talking about so save yourself the embarrassment and go back to molesting your sister.

Ps3 has 1 core with 8 SPU's which the Xbox 360 has 3 Cores. SPU's and Cores are totally different. And the Ps3 only has access to 7 of those SPU's. So tell me, if both Sony and Microsoft have released the specs of their consoles saying both the Cell and the Xenos clock in a 3.2GHZ each then how could it be more powerful?

Blu-Ray winning the war is a plus but that isn't helping your case. If, like you say, that will have an effect on the Ps3 then how? Most of the new people buying a Ps3 will be buying it for movies and not for games. That is why Ps3 has an attach rate of 5 while the Xbox 360 has an attach rate of 9 because Xbox 360 owners buy games.

Still on Blu-Ray, Storage capacity isn't all that matters. Blu-Ray has a transfer rate Half that of a DVD. Enjoying your 5GB installs that take 24 minutes? As put by the Oblivion developer "Drive speed matters more to me [than capacity], and Blu-ray is slower,"

Both consoles are equal. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. My suggestion would be, why get rid of the 360? Why not have both like some of us? You get the best of both worlds
