Question HELP! Broadband blackspot

Hi there,

Can somebody help? I live in a broadband blackspot with no indication as to when the area will be "activated".

What, if any options do I have for online gaming?

I currently use 3's 3G mobile broadband to access the internet via my laptop. But want to get maximum value from my PS3 and my games.

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Move to a new Area or wait it out..Those 3G modems are not worth a crap for trying to playonline.

You can get cable broadband and adsl broadband.

Adsl braodband is thro your phone line, and you can get speeds of upto 8-10meg depending on how modern your exchange is, tho 5-6 is the norm, with speeds like that, its plenty good for online work.

If you rang you house phone provider, and tell them to put a speed test on the line, they would tell you what speeds are achievable.

All depends man...If you're like my brother back at home living in the middle of a bog
you ain't gonna get broadband down the phone line.
The only other option is Satelite but thats p-r-e-t-t-y pricey.....

Forget about any kind of Satelite Broadband for gaming.

My wireless connection is the limit in ping-ing terms,

You will get signed out on the PSN for having a ping over 120ms, My ping can be as low as 50 and as high as 130.

Sat broadband has pings of up to 2000ms, Thats 2 effin seconds!!!

Its not just one-way sat either, Its the same for the VERY dear 2-way sat broadband,

Either fixed wireless or a sh1tty Vodafone/3g card may be your only option.

@ OP
As I asked before where abouts in the world are ya?

Eircom wouldnt update our local exchange, in Lakeside North Tipp but luckily we have wireless bb via an independent company which uses the local o2 mast. Respect to Wirelessconnect and not those greedy Eircom B'stards who cnt even provide a reliable phone service.

As a matter of interest where a you living

Whats the bet that once the whole country get coverage, the Eircom boys will upgrade the Exchanges and put the squeeze on the Small guys.

You better believe it!

But by then it'll be 2050 and everyone will have a wireless modem built into their ear so no-one will need DSL anymore
