NTL uses Eircom's exchanges so if NTL goes down, so does Eircom

Eircom own every exchange in Ireland (Read: Monopoly). NTL could only increase the speeds when Eircom upgraded their exchanges.

During a recession luxuries are the first things people get rid of. Broadband is a luxury. If they can give great broadband speeds at a reduced price then they can keep their customers


Btw we aren't anywhere near a recession yet A recession is 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth whereas the first half of 2008 we had 2.5% growth The money we are getting from exports is also increasing with it growing by hundreds of millions this year

The only thing causing a recession is us. When others say we ar in a recession then we feel the need to cut down on spending and therefore that results in less sales for retailers which results in them cutting jobs to keep profit margins

Heh heh...easy lad....I said apparent recession !! And I'm not refering to the cost
to the consumer, I was on about the cost of upgrading the network infrastructure !!

Anywho....I'll have to wait it out to suss out what the craic is in the coming month or two....
(Please o' please let me get 20Mb !!)

P.S. I used to have NTL cable TV when in Dublin for a year and their service
was absolute sh1te !!

You would need to be in a well built up area to get NTL Seany

I haven't a hope of getting even DSL for many years to come,

Still though, The wireless has improved greatly in the last few years so it could be worse, I could still have dial-up
