Default New Gta info

From Games tm mag
Quote:
- Star Junction is the GTA name for Times Square

- Little Jacob is a Caribbean arms dealer and an associate of Niko Bellic that helps him get armed with weaponry.

- Niko will have the ability to hail a taxi in the game.

- A place called Rotterdam Hill is mentioned in the preview.

- The trip skip feature can be used here to skip the long cab ride to the location.

- A law film called Goldberg, Ligner and Shyster is in the game.

- Niko enters an internet cafe and uploads his CV (curriculum vitć), also known as a résumé, to get an interview with and to kill Goldberg. Niko goes to the Tw@ Cafe, a place that was originally in GTA III. The magazine says that "GTA IV's web is accessible from any computer in the game, and provides a hub for all sorts of interactivity within Liberty City. The extent of GTA IV's World Wide Web use is still being kept under wraps, but we're promised that it's huge, and very, very important."

- Niko receives a phone call after he sends his CV.

- A place called Castle Gardens is where Niko goes to see a person named McReary. The place is a "coast-side hangout overlooking The Statue of Happiness."

- Niko knows about where a man he has to kill is standing, but in order to make sure, he calls the man and sees who gets a phone out. He identifies the person and kills him.

- In terms of wanted level and police artificial intelligence, "any crime you commit will give you a wanted level." However, "instead of the cops just screaming to your position, the star rating you're 'awarded' translates to a visible search area on the radar. If you manage to escape the circular search area then your wanted level will flash and disappear. If you're spotted, though, the center of the circle changes to your position, and you have to start again."

- "In GTA IV, every single street is named (as opposed to just the districts), and the police use this information to track down criminals. If you're spotted on Star Junction in a Comet, for example, you'll hear it on the police radio. Escape the police's line of sight, however, and the ball's suddenly in your court."

- A store called Perseus is a new clothing retailer in the GTA world that, in the preview, sold Niko a suit and shoes.

- Niko died in the demo that Rockstar gave the magazine.

more in depth info

The mobile phone can be used to gain weapons. In the demo that GamesTM saw, Niko calls his associate Little Jacob, who is a caribbean arms dealer. No more Ammu-Nation it seems. After a brief chat with Jacob, he tells Niko to meet him in an alleyway in Rotterdam Hill, where he purchases the weapons from him.

Niko can use taxis to get around (presumably he can use the phone to call a taxi). The police are much more vigilant in GTA IV, and sometimes it is less hassle using a taxi than jacking someone's car. The trip-skip option is available for convenience.

In the demo, Niko recieves a call concerning "shady lawyer" Goldberg, of Goldberg, Ligner & Shyster (GLS). Niko can use the internet in GTA4. He heads over to an internet café called the "Tw@ Café," and hops onto a PC before surfing. He uploads his CV to the GLS website so he can get an interview - before killing Goldberg. He receives a phonecall confirming the time of his interview. The web is available from any computer in the game, and provides a hub for all sorts of interactivity within Liberty City.

Missions in GTA IV can be interrupted. The interview isn't until tomorrow, which means you can carry out other business until then. This suggests you can be do several missions at the same time, and missions can take place over several days, perhaps.

Next in the demo, Niko pays a visit to somebody called McReary, at Castle Gardens, a coast-side hangout overlooking the Statue of Hapiness. McReary has had a memory stick stolen from him which contains sensitive data, and he wants Niko to retrieve it for him. He takes another cab to the meeting point, where the target is standing amongst a crowd of people. The problem is he doesn't know which one it is, so he gives him a call to see which one picks up their phone. Niko shoots the target three times in the back of the head, before taking the memory stick and making a run for it. He gains a three-star wanted level as a result.

Committing crimes isn't as easy in GTA IV. You gain a wanted level for every crime you commit, aslong as there are witnesses present. Once you have gained a wanted level, a visible (circular) search area appears on the radar, and if you escape this area without being spotted, your wanted level will flash and disappear. If you are spotted, however, the search area's position changes, and centers on where you were last spotted. So unlike previous GTA games, the police don't always know where you are. They can't catch you unless they find you first. It was confirmed previously that in GTA IV every street will be named, and this is what cops use to communicate when they are tracking you down. There are no Pay N' Spray's to save you this time, unfortunately.

Before heading off to the interview, Niko goes to a menswear store called Perseus. After spending $2,000 on a new suit and shoes, his phone alarm sounds and he begins his journey to the GLS offices for his interview. He speaks to the receptionist from outside the building via intercom, before making his way into the building. He enters Goldeberg's office and puts a bullet in his head, which causes his secretary to trigger the alarm. Niko must beat security guards and police in order to get out of the building. Bullets rain down on him, and there's a police chopper waiting outside. It seems as though the more bullets he takes, the more damage he takes, and hence he becomes less able to fight. The damage is visible.
I have said it before and i will say it again, this will be the greatest game of all time!!!

all the new screens aswell

Rockstar has a lot to prove, but today's Take 2 conference delivered something of a delightful surprise for attendees: 3 minutes or so of actual GTA IV gameplay, running on 360 hardware and looking every bit as cool as the initial trailers have suggested.

Despite the presenter's insistence that IV offers "progressive…changes to the series", what we saw offered only a glimpse of the most basic gameplay - driving mechanics and walking around - and it all looked very familiar. The demo started off with a black menu screen, which is likely a temporary version, as is much of the user interface. The menu listed, from left to right, 'map', 'game', 'brief', 'stats', 'controls', 'audio' and 'display'.

In an announcement that is sure to drive fans wild, the presenter confirmed that GTA IV's scope and scale is on par with San Andreas - but much more focused and packed with detail. As the game kicked off legitimately, Niko Bellic (lead character) is in the middle of the mock-New York streets, in Times Square. The traffic and most other AI characters are turned off, so it's hauntingly empty. However, the lighting and atmosphere is undeniably hot - it's night time and the hours start to pass, drawing out the sun and showing off the HDR lighting, which is very realistic.

According to the presenter, the official period of the game is present day - stylistically, it's an evolution of the style in GTA III that tells an "American dream, rags-to-better-rags" story.

Niko smoothly enters a black Lincoln Continental-lookalike and suddenly GTA IV comes together. There is the familiar circular map in the bottom left of the screen, the similarly familiar numerical score listing in the top right of the screen and that's it. There are no other UI elements on-screen yet.

Niko begins to cruise down the streets - rows and rows of wonderfully detailed buildings, storefronts and high-risers - and the initial look is identical to previous games. The camera is fixed 15 feet behind the bar and a little above. Some 50s era jazz is playing softly in the background, over the car's radio.

About a minute and a half into the demo, the sun is starting to peek over the building tops, revealing the details at street level - trash cans, incidental objects and all manner of bottles, newspapers and more. The lack of traffic and people is a little disappointing - we're keen to see how the game deals with foot traffic and the new AI routines.

Niko rounds a corner and ends up at the docks, similar to the waterside locales in the trailers. The water effects are just stunning, and the HDR plays off of the surface very impressively. Niko stands around not doing much, just performing little passive animations like turning his head and looking around, moving his arms and things like that. When he moves, his animations are impressively smooth and transition well.

Niko initiates a mission with his cell-phone, though it's not clear what you press to bring out the phone. A little Sony-Ericsson knock-off pops up on the lower right of the screen and some dialogue text appeared at the base of the screen, as voice acting hasn't been implemented yet. We don't get to see how the conversation ends or what happens when you accept the mission. The demo is cut short and leaves us hungry and scandalised by the questions raised.

And that's that. The demo ends. That's kind of a mundane preview, we know, but that's exactly what they want us to think. Even something as simple and bland as driving is very, very cool.

Lastly, as the demo ended and the screen was paused, we got the shortest glimpse of the map for a split second and indeed it's a big game. It looked like two enormous islands linked at the middle, but the glimpse was so short that we could be wrong there. However, in line with the presenter's comments, we're expecting San Andreas scale here.

There are still truckloads of bugs to be worked out - the framerate is a little worrying, as is the pop-up. With just a few months of development time left, we're hoping what we were shown was just an early build; otherwise, Rockstar still has a lot of work to do in order to make the October release date.

sounds very good to me

i got this info from

1.The main character's name is Niko Bellic - he is an Eastern European immigrant

2.Bellic arrives in Liberty City as he has been receiving emails from his cousin, Roman. At the start of the game, he is the only person you know.

3.Roman lies to get Niko to come to Liberty City, by telling him he has women, cars and money...he is actually in huge debt. Niko thinks he will live the "American Dream".

4.The Statue of Liberty is now called the Statue of Happiness, while DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is known as BOABO (Beneath the Offramp of the Algoquin Bridge Overpass).

5.Liberty City's similarities to New York are as follows, with 4 of the 5 boroughs being recreated: Brooklyn = Broker; Manhattan = Algonquin; Queens = Dukes; Bronx = Bohan; New Jersey = Alderney

6.The scale of Liberty City is slightly smaller than San Andreas, except now there are no wasted parts (countryside for example), it is a lot more detailed.

7.Multiplayer modes in GTA 4 are still to be announced, however, Rockstar have said it won't be a massively multiplayer online game. They are making something interesting, fun and progressive, and which ties in with single player gameplay.

8.Since it's only New York, there will be no planes in the game which you can pilot. Rockstar want the game to seem realistic. You won't be needing planes.

9.Pedestrians are a lot more realistic, and do things such as smoke, sit on benches, read, go shopping, eat, and more...

10.Rockstar have been working very hard on the targeting system - expect it to be a big improvement from previous games.

11.After the initial loading sequence, there will be no more loading screens to sit through, not even when transitioning between interior and exterior environments

12.While making the game, Rockstar consulted crime experts and ex-policemen and found that being a criminal is much more difficult now than it was during previous decades, so they have tried to reflect this in the game. Expect to see people getting arrested as the police are a heavy presence.

13.As Rockstar North are approaching the recruitment of voice actors in a different way. We probably won't hear any recognisable voices in GTA 4 because they are looking for voices that suit the attitude of the characters. This approach is also being carried over to the soundtrack, where R* are looking for music which works well with the modern day Liberty City.

14.You will use a cell phone to call contacts

15.The visual effects of the game will be massively enhanced - the rising and setting sun will reflect off glass and light up details on buildings; the streets will have potholes and rubble. Variations in terrain are reflected in the way people walk over it.

16.A big part of the game is delivering story in new ways and allowing the player to plot their own destiny

17.The protagonist Niko Bellic is in his mid-thirties, and although not customisable, you will be able to don him with new outfits and such. Rockstar said they got Niko's physics just right and found it was difficult to implement character customisation with regards to this.

18.The mob will be featured in the game, though they won't be lead characters. Additionally, 'hardly any' of the characters from previous games will return.

19.Missions will offer an increased amount of realism, and will be longer and more varied, some will even have multiple possible outcomes.

20.there's no more pop-ups of buildings and foliage as we've seen in the past thanks to the completely overhauled graphics engine.

21.The Artificial Intelligence of the NPC's has received a huge overhaul, pedestrians do a wide variety of things which were mentioned in the GameInformer article, and they even react to events such as a gun being pulled on them.

22.Shooting is said to be much more precise and fluid than in previous games.

23.Niko can use his mobile phone to do things such as set up deals and ambushes.

24.Rockstar have promised a wider range of side-missions to partake in while not playing through the main storyline.

25.There are about four different camera angles

26.The in-car camera basically acts as a first-person view, where you're able to look around across the bonnet (hood)

27.Weather effects aren't merely for show, they will affect gameplay (such as vehicle handling)

28.Niko's cousin Roman is thousands of dollars in debt

29.Niko's mobile phone has the ability to receive text messages and also has a camera which you can take pictures with.

30.Driving physics have been "tirelessly tweaked and enhanced".

31.When a car drives past with loud music you'll be able to hear the bass.

32.Rockstar are focusing their attention on this game for now, and there are currently no plans for San Andreas Stories for the PSP  .

33.Further, it is not known whether GTAIV will pave the way for more sequels. Although Dan Houser has said he "would have a certain confidence" setting GTA outside of the USA, which certainly opens up the possibilities for future GTA games.

34.Further to the new targeting system, it appears Niko is able to strafe left and right when locked on to a target after pulling out a weapon to avoid being shot.

35.Emphasising the detailing gone into the city, you can see what's under grates on the sidewalk providing there's enough light shining into it.

36.While hi-jacking cars driving along the road is a familiar task for GTA players, hi-jacking a parked vehicle seems like it has more to it now. No longer can you simply open the door and drive off. Now you'll have to be stealthy about it, break the window to get in, and then hot wire it.

37.It is implied that the ability to manually aim guns such as a pistol has now been implemented, when Niko pulls out a pistol, the camera will zoom in slightly, and a crosshair fixed to the centre of the screen appears.

38.Hand-to-hand combat has also been worked on a lot

39.Niko is able to climb and descend fire escapes, telegraph poles and the like. He'll also be able to enter skyscrapers (and throw people off them).

40.One of the radio stations is said to play Eastern European dance music

41.Rockstar don't want the game to be too "naturalistic" so there will be some "fun" weapons in the game

42.Central Park will have its own recreation in the game, it is not yet known what its name will be.

43.Boats are confirmed and their handling is said to be improved.

44.Philip Glass, a highly influential composer, is working with Rockstar and involved with production of the game's soundtrack (he composed the music in the first trailer)

45.Times Square is called "Star Junction"

46.Niko can use his cell phone to call for weapons. Niko calls his associate Little Jacob, a Caribbean arms dealer, the conversation ends with Jacob telling Niko to meet him in an alleyway in Rotterdam Hill

47.Niko can call a taxi cab to go to a destination and view the ride in first-person or use trip-skip to speed the experience along

48.On one mission, Niko must retrieve a memory stick with sensitive data on it from a person identified as McReary. The problem is that McReary is standing with a group of people and Niko doesn't know who he is, so he takes out his cell phone and calls McReary. When the now-revealed target pulls out his cell phone, Niko walks up and puts a bullet in his head.

49.Missions can supposedly be "interrupted." This suggests that multiple missions can be done at the same time and that some will span several days.

50.The "TW@"( ) internet café from GTA3 is present but this time you can surf the web.

51.Any crime committed will give you a wanted level

52.The star rating will create a visible search area on the radar, which, if escaped, will dissipate the wanted level

53.The police radio returns and you can hear the police talking about where you were last spotted as in previous games, only this time, the police will know exactly where you are at because every street is named

54.There is a clothing store called "Perseus" where suits can be purchased

55."Little Jacob", an arm's dealer is said to be a good friend of Niko's cousin, you can buy weapons from him. The weapon's are in the trunk of his car, and the method used to purchase the weapons is very similar to the way you would buy weapons from an Ammu-Nation in the other GTA's.

56.There were no arrow's on top of certain people you had to kill, you have to figure out who to gun-down on your own.

57.Multiplayer is accessed through Niko's cell phone.

58.You must maintain and develop relationships with people and friends. If this means Niko could have a girlfriend if he maintains a relationship with a certain women is unknown at the moment.

59.You can use objects as cover, blind fire, and roll around.

60.McReary, is the "corrupt cop", and he has "dirt on Niko's past".
