Default Surround Sound Problem

HI,

i hope im not in the wrong place but here i go. basically i cant get any sound from my surround system (creative inspire T7900). what ive done as adviced from my local computer shop, is that i can use an optical fibre to connect from the PS3 to the PC sound card (ALC882). ive done this however there is still no sound. can anyone tell me what im doing worng? ill be very happy to provide you with more info. about anything else to try and resolve this.

I havn't got my PS3 on me to check right now, but I can kinda remember something from the settings screen. Go to system set-up...and cycle through each stage again, setting up for HD tv etc.,there should be the option for sound in there too. digital optical doot doot. Just state what cables you are using and all the rest.....

Why arent you connecting the ps3 directly to your speakers and you want to use the pc sound card? I have mine with an optical directly to the speakers and it works fine but its a home theater system not one made for pc's. Do the speakers have a optical port? If yes just plug it there directly.
