Default PS3 won't read audio discs

Morning all,

I've a 40gb PS3 and have suddenly started having problems loading audio cd's on my ps3. It was fine before as i've copied a few cd tracks on to the hard drive. It coincided with 2 things:

1. Just after downloading the latest update last week;

2. I've just started using a 250gb external hard drive to store all my tracks/pics/vids, etc, so have transferred all my stuff over to that.

It will read dvd's and games, so its not a problem with the drive (i think), just seems to have a block on audio cd's. When I left a cd in the drive and turned it off and on again the whole system just wouldn't load, it got stuck on the wavey line at start-up, and when I put a cd in whilst the system is on it won't read it but it also then won't let me access anything else except the web browser.

Anyhoo, any ideas what could be the problem?

Cheers,
JR
