Ps2 Games not working in Ps3

I am trying to help a friend of mine who lives out of town and does not have the internet. He has a Ps3 40gig and just updated to 2.41. He can't play Ps2 Games, but can play some Ps1 Games, any help would be appreciated. He says that each game applies it's own version of the O/S overighting the 2.41

Google would have informed you 40gb ps3s aren't backwards compatible

He can play ps1 games if they are downloaded from ps store. But 40gig versions cant play ps2 games. Only 60 and 80gig. I've got 40 gig but upgraded to 250gig.

i have the 0gb ps3 & i cant play ps2 games but i can play all ps1 games & thats not downloaded ps1 games that ps1 games from the disc...

Agree with both of you,im not bothered in the slightest that i cant play old games on my ps3

i got rid of my ps2 and all my games as soon as i got bored of sanandreas the only games i did have was gta 3,vicecity and sanandreas

80GB will not be able to play PS1 games.
