You need to fiddle with your router settings.

Couple of things to try in your router settings:-

1. Try enabling the option for UP&P (Universal Plug & Play). This allows the router to automatically configure the NAT settings depending on what the attached devices require.

2. Look for an option for DMZ . It should be a box which you can fill in the IP address which has been assigned to your PS3. This puts your PS3 outside of whats called the Demilitarized Zone.

Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) allows one IP Address (Your PS3 in this case!.) to be exposed to the Internet. Some applications require multiple TCP/IP ports to be open. It is recommended that you set your PS3 with a static IP if you want to use DMZ. Linksys describes it as "The DMZ Host setting allows one local user to be exposed to the Internet to use a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming or Video-conferencing".

You should be aiming to get your PS3 to show you as have Nat Type 1 or Nat Type 2.

What Router are you using?.

Yours might be but others might not. It depends on how strict the router is being with NAT (Network Address Translation), and that is dependant on its configuration. I believe firewall settings on the router might have a similar affect on the Nat Type as well.

Edited:-
Found this on another site which might be helpful for people to know:-

Different PS3 NAT Types and Meanings (Generalized)
  • NAT Type 1
You are either NOT behind a router/firewall OR you have already DMZ enabled your PS3. Your PS3 is connected properly and you shouldn't run into any issues.
  • NAT Type 2
Your PS3 is connected to a router. Your PS3 is connected properly and you shouldn't run into any issues.
  • NAT Type 3
You are behind a router/firewall. While your PS3 may be able to connect to the PSN and perform downloads/updates other functions may not work as intended.

yeah thats right bill with nat 2 ya have to forward ports for each game for them to work properly and have the ports for psn forwarded aswell but with nat 1 theres no need for any of that
sometimes lowerin the level of the router firewall can help to get on nat 2

8 years working on a Technical Support Helpdesk for an Internet Service Provider (my previous job). Oh and also 2 years of owning an Xbox 360 and having had the same issues on that with Xbox Live! lol.

If someone gave me a car engine to work on I wouldnt have a clue what I'm doing!. But I love to drive though, I wish I knew how to fix them! lol.

my friends call on me too...I mean come on how hard is it to pull the power adapter on your router count to ten and plug it back it.

nah just kidding...but in all honesty nine time out of ten that's all that needed doing. but then there is that one occasion that proves a challenge.

and it usually involves either a netgear or a linksys router...man they are god awful bits of kit.

lol I know what you mean!. The amount of times they've got themselves in a fuss because they cant get on facebook, and so I say 'Have you tried rebooting the router!?'. They do it and ta da!!! lol .

I'm not feeling the love from you for Netgear and Linksys routers! lol. Personally i've not had much trouble with them. My previous router was a linksys and my current router is a netgear. Hasnt caused me any issues and the netgear router so far has been very stable. I did have to set my IP address in the DMZ though, but didnt have to fluff around with the port forwarding.
