HK PS3 displays Chinese text

Hi - just bought a PS3 and games advertised as 'Hong Kong Version' on ebay (180UKP). 20GB, no card readers or wifi. I've set the languages to english.

Everything works fine, except the browser defaults to an asian language page, and there's a sort of 'ticker tape' thing on the main screen that also displays asian text.

Does anyone know how to change these things to english?

Sounds like youve done what I would suggest you do. can ask why would buy a 20gb from hong kong off ebay thats just asking for problems.

No way to change the ticker tape thing then?

TBH I didn't do any research beyond 'will it play games on my telly', and it does. That's all I want it for. I tend to buy this sort of thing and sell it anyway once I'm bored - don't see any reason why I won't get my money back.

For posterity, it seems it's not possible for Japanese/Korean consoles, so I'll make do without the news/ticker thing. On others press the green triangle while in the news app - mine doesn't do anything, so I can only assume it's a Japanese/Korean, and not HK.
