Fixing ps2

Hi again guys, i know this is a ps3 forum but can i ask a few questions on my son`s broken ps2, after a fall the laser light seems to be broken and the disc spindle will not rotate, if i bought a replacement ps2 Laser and Mechanism unit and replace the faulty one would this solve the problem, or could there be a lot of other things that could be wrong, costing me a fortune to go looking for other parts.

just bring it to a shop that does repairs,if ur in ireland www.consolerepairsireland.ie are good and cheap

see my post in your thread about backwards compatibility, all your answers are there....repairing a PS2 is expensive....when you consider what you can pick them up for these days
