Certain disks will not load

Picked up a bargain @ the weekend;
got resistance and heavenly sword for €40.
resistance runs fine, not a bad game but heavenly sword will not load,
select 'heavenly sword' from PS3 menu, shows a few splash screens, and gets stuck displaying the title screen, no options to choose though.

I am playing on a small TV as my LCD is broken, could that be the cause?
or is the disk no good??

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

You checked the disk for marks or scratches?

yup - gave it a good clean, spotless.
its odd that it loads the disc but seems to crash whilst displaying the 'heavnely sword' screen.
checked the box, it needs 2.1 GB of space, thought it might be installing, doesn't say anything...... might just take it back
