Default cannot connect ps3 to internet

can someone help me please before i go insane!

i have vodafone 3g broadband on my laptop.

i have internet connection sharing turned on on the vodafone network.

i have given the ps3 an ip and used the routers ip as the 'default router' and as the primary dns. i have secondary dns as all zeros.

when i test connection it fails every time.

i have both my ps3 and laptop plugged into a router.
the router is an eircom netopia router that's no longer used for dsl.

i also have a 4port hub if neccessary.

does anyone know what i need to do here? do i have to do something with ports?

any help much appreciated!!!!!!

hi, i just tried that, i entered the same dns for secondary and then tried it at a different secondary (+1) but still failed. i've been googling this for days and had read that the secondary should be all zeros.

i'm not connecting through eircom but just using eircom netopia router.

would this router not work because it's preset for eircom dsl or something? i haven't a clue! i'm thinking of going out and buying a cross over cable in case that might work better but i'm afraid im gonna be in the same situation!

the hub doesn't seem to be any help either,

bloody bloody hell

is that a cross over cable? so go straight from laptop to ps3? so i don't need to do any crap with ports, it should just bloody work?

i suppose i'll give it a try, i'm at the end of my rope. if i do this and it still fails watch the news for man found dead with ps3 stuck in forehead.

should be a RJ45 cable ports on your router.

From there straight into the ps3 from the router, it will have samew socket on both ends its sort of a square style port on router and the same on the back of the ps3

Plug in and hopefully your sorted

so that means it won't work for anything else through it?

would my best bet so just be to get a crossover cable and plug straight into ps3?

yes RJ45 is a networking cable

Crossover cable is a direct connection from PC to PC,

i already have two rj45 network cables then. that's what i have been using, the ps3 and laptop were plugged into router and also a hub. neither worked.

i was thinking that the eircom router might only be configured for dsl as it came from eircom.

i am going to get a cross over cable in pc world so and try direct.

you will not get an internet connection by that way, you must have a router in there either by cable or wireless.
