I have recently stopped playing COD4 because of this!!!
I can rarely connect to my clan members now!! This problem seems to be random too - one minute I can't connect, the next minute I can.
This problem never used to exist, so it's making me wonder what exactly the last update did that they didn't count on. Maybe the server's are too busy now, but it's just not acceptable! At times, when I go 'online', it goes to my party, but when I go to 'find game' it says 'Downloading Game Settings' - which should have happened upon entering the party screen - and can take anywhere up to 15 mins (WTF?!).......... 
I think we'll probably be in for a new update at some point in the near future. I say; the sooner the better! Until then I'm afraid I'll be mostly playing Warhawk. May go back to R6V as well, for a bit more training b4 the sequel comes out.
